Welcoming Our International Residents

The International Connections group plans activities and events designed to foster community connections and help our international residents feel welcome in Winchester.

The WMCN has a site license for The Newcomers Almanac, a monthly e-newsletter for newcomers to the United States that is distributed through the Network to Winchester residents who are tutoring those learning English. Let us know if you would like to receive this helpful resource. For more information on other resources offered by the Interchange Institute.

The Winchester Public Library has materials for library patrons who are learning English. Through its membership in the Minuteman Library Network, Winchester makes available books, music, and films in other languages. Be sure to ask the Reference Librarians for help in finding the materials you want.

English Conversation Groups
We provide publicity and collaboration to support English at Large, which offers one-on-one tutoring and English Conversation groups to area residents seeking to improve their English language skills. English Conversation groups are offered in the Winchester Public Library, during the school year, on Tuesday mornings, Wednesday evenings, Friday afternoons, and Saturday mornings. Led by volunteers, the groups provide opportunities for non-native English speakers to practice their new language skills and meet local and international friends in a dynamic, supportive setting. Please call English at Large (781-395-2374) or e-mail to enroll in a group or to volunteer as a tutor or a conversation group leader.
Drop In Coffee
Anyone is welcome to stop in at Bruegger’s Bagels, 600 Main Street, on Thursday mornings 8:30 am to 10:00 am for informal coffee and conversation.
International Film Series
On the first Monday evening of each month, November-April, One Winchester Many Traditions, a collaboration between the Winchester Multicultural Network and the Winchester Public Library, shows notable films from around the world. Typically, the film is introduced by someone from the country where it is produced. Following the viewing of the film, there is a discussion. Films begin at 6:00 p.m in the meeting room of the library. Look for details on Upcoming Events post on this website and on our  Constant Contact emailing. Be sure you are on our mailing list.
Lunch Brunch
Join us for monthly lunches at ethnic restaurants in the area. Just email us or call 781-729-7100 and let us know if you would like to be included. We’ll email you with the date and place where we’ll meet next. We hope to alternate between lunch and dinner to include those who can’t participate during the day.
