A skill-building program, 3 Thursday evenings,
October 5, 12, 19, 2017 | 6:00–9:00pm,
Attendance on all 3 evenings is required—to build a learning community

It’s time to step up.

The U.S. has historically struggled with issues related to race, religion, sexual orientation and gender identity, and socioeconomic class differences. Many people have been unaware these issues, while others have always encountered these issues in their daily lived experiences. Concerned people of all identities are coming together today out of a renewed sense of urgency to build skills to take action on these issues.

Enhance your skills

We invite you to join a 3-session, skill-building program in Social Justice Leadership. This program aims to bring together a multicultural group of 18 people, diverse in race, gender, and age as well as in experience and influence with varieties of formal and informal local leadership (in community, neighborhood, church, school, advocacy group, and so forth).

Together we will:

  • Learn about the historical context of some of today’s societal challenges.
  • Create a safe and nourishing space for learning with and from each other.
  • Deepen our understanding of how our own backgrounds inform our behavior and influence our personal, professional, and civic lives.
  • Build greater awareness of implicit bias and cultural assumptions.
  • Explore solutions and practice role-playing various upstander,  intervention, and change strategies.
  • Enhance our general community leadership skills.
  • Use creative approaches—drawn from theater, visual arts, dialogue—to enrich our learning.

APPLY NOW

If you are eager to make your community safer and more inclusive for everyone, we invite you to fill out an application to participate. This pilot program is limited to 18 participants, but there are likely to be future opportunities if we are not able to offer you a spot in this first program.

Fee $75 for the 3 sessions; sliding scale available.
