Response Committee: Supporting Targets of Discrimination

The Mission of the Winchester Multicultural Network is to:

  • Promote the recognition, understanding, and appreciation of diversity;
  • Advocate for each and every person’s civil rights;
  • Confront intolerance.

The Response Committee provides support and advocacy for targets or witnesses of incidents of discrimination, bias, and/or hatred.

The types of incidents we have responded to over the years have included hate crimes, harassment, offensive remarks, bullying and workplace discrimination. People we have worked with have been targeted on the basis of their race, religion, national origin, and ethnicity. We are committed to responding to bias based on differences of any kind, including gender, sexual orientation, age, and disability.

The action we take in any situation primarily depends upon the needs of the target or witness. Our action might be very public, such as a letter to the editor or a public forum in response to a community incident. Or, it might be completely confidential. Initial communications with the person reporting an incident are always completely confidential and action taken depends entirely on the wishes of the individual.
